Lucas County Children Services Kicks off Annual Holiday Gift Drive
LCCS Celebrates National Adoption Day
Campaign Benefits Abused and Neglected Children

With a goal of providing holiday cheer to abused and neglected children in Lucas County, Lucas County Children Services (LCCS) and Friends of Lucas County Children Services (FLCCS) are kicking off their annual Holiday Gift Drive. This year’s theme is, “Be A Shining Star This Holiday Season."
The goal is to provide gifts to as many as 2,000 children living with their families under LCCS supervision, or who are living with relatives in order to be safe. “These are children whose families are in crisis, who may be separated from their siblings, or who may not receive any other gifts this holiday season,” explains Sherry Dunn, LCCS public information specialist and campaign coordinator.
The gift drive provides toys for children from birth to age 18. While we are seeking gifts for all age groups, the agency is in particular need of gifts for children of all ethnic groups who are 18 months to 4 years old, and for teenagers.
Several generous community partners are stepping up to support the gift drive: Buckeye CableSystem, Bennett Management Corp., operator of the Toledo-area Burger King® restaurants, The Blade newspaper and radio station 101.5 The River. Local residents are encouraged to drop a new, unwrapped toy in the collection boxes located in all Toledo-area Burger King® restaurants, at The Blade office at 541 North Superior Street, or at the Buckeye CableSystem bill payment centers located at 5566 Southwyck Boulevard and 2600 West Sylvania Avenue in Toledo, and at 3021 Navarre Avenue, Oregon, inside computerXTREME.
Additionally, Bennett Management Corp. is hosting a live broadcast with 101.5 The River morning show hosts Mary Beth Zolik and Rick Woodell, from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, December 2, at the Burger King® restaurant located at 4870 Monroe Street (across from Westfield Shopping Mall). The public is encouraged to stop by and support the gift drive during that time. “We know that many shoppers will be out and about that evening, and this will be a convenient time and place for them to show they care about abused and neglected children by stopping by to donate a toy or gift card,“ says Beverly Benner, vice president, marketing and administration for Bennett Management Corp.
“We are hoping that with the awareness our partners will bring to this campaign, that Toledo-area residents will open their hearts and help us reach our goal of providing toys to all of the children in need,” says Clare Armbruster, president of Friends of Lucas County Children Services.
